Although Portland had two short-lived women’s professional basketball teams, there was immense enthusiasm to secure a new franchise. I was a bit surprised when the owners of the Portland Thorns soccer team bought the new basketball team, which will compete with the Thorns for the spring and summer entertainment dollar. Because of the NBA labor dispute, they had to throw together a roster with little prep time.
