Dear Editor, I’m responding to Neil Crouch’s letter of July 1 regarding the kelp harvesting ships of 1972. Yes, our family watched in disgust as the ships came through close to shore taking all the kelp, home to a rich bio-diverse ecosystem. My dad would have fished these kelp beds by rowboat and later a clinker built boat. The B.C. government issued licenses for kelp harvest beginning in 1967 to the mid 1970s.
