Rays Place SS Taylor Walls (Hip) on 10-Day Injured List
Taylor Walls went on the injured list with a right hip flexor strain as Tampa Bay recalled Nick Madrigal and opened a 40-man roster spot.
The Tampa Bay Rays placed shortstop Taylor Walls on the 10-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain, retroactive to Sept. 6, and recalled infielder Nick Madrigal from Triple-A Durham.
Walls provides significant defensive value, leading the American League with 21 Total Zone Total Fielding Runs Above Average; Rays manager Kevin Cash expressed optimism that the six-year veteran's stay on the injured list will be short.
To accommodate Madrigal on the 40-man roster, the organization designated right-handed reliever Hunter Bigge for assignment, who posted a 6.98 ERA in 18 relief appearances earlier this season.
Jorge Mateo will assume the role of primary shortstop during Walls' absence; Mateo previously played for the Braves before joining the Rays earlier this season.
The Rays begin a three-game series against East-leading Atlanta on Tuesday, continuing roster adjustments in the final stretch of the 2026 season.
