- Police stopped Asencio at a preventive checkpoint on the GC-1 motorway on Sunday August 16. A breath test revealed 0.9 milligrams of alcohol per litre, more than three times Spain's legal limit of 0.25 mg/l.
- Because the breath test exceeded 0.6 mg/l, the incident became a criminal matter rather than an administrative fine. Authorities processed the case through a fast-track trial on Wednesday August 19, just three days after the stop.
- Asencio faces a separate trial beginning Thursday September 3, concerning the alleged non-consensual sharing of a sexual video from 2023. Hearings are scheduled for September 3, 4 and 7 in Gran Canaria.
- The 23-year-old centre-back made his La Liga debut in November 2024 and has since made more than 70 appearances for Real Madrid. Injuries to David Alaba and Milit pushed him into the first team during the 2024-25 season.
