In July 1995, in just eight days, nearly 10,000 people were killed. The world remained watching, starting with the UN blue helmets that were supposed to protect the Muslim enclave. The then Serbian general Mladic caressed the young before sending them underground, and spread the human remains among the most distant mass graves, to make it impossible to find them.
Under his leadership, nearly 8,400 men were shot dead at the Muslim enclave of Srebrenica in 1995. Dutch UN troops failed to protect the enclave.
In July 1995, Serbian forces, under the command of General Ratko Mladic, captured Srebrenica, which was under the protection of UN peacekeepers. The town in eastern Bosnia witnessed the largest massacre our continent has seen since World War II.
