Rare ‘golden lobster’ discovered in Rhode Island grocery store’s seafood delivery
DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA AND NORTH KINGSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND, JUL 22 – Two multi-colored lobsters with odds of one in 50 million and one in 100 million attract record visitors while a rare gold lobster joins marine center exhibits in Rhode Island.
- Last week, the Biomes Marine Biology Center in North Kingstown accepted a rare gold lobster rescued from a Warwick grocery store.
- Instead of being cooked, the gold lobster will remain at the center, with Mariah Branch noting one in about every 30 million have this coloring.
- To educate visitors, the aquarium will host live feeding events, with Mariah Branch saying `They're just completely masked by that golden pigment`.
- Building Manager Mariah Branch said `so much better for this little guy,` adding `It's a gorgeous, gorgeous, golden lobster`.
- Now one of two gold lobsters at the aquarium, the center will host a virtual naming contest on its Facebook page this week.
