Gold Smuggling Case Plot to Sideline Home Minister Parameshwara, Claims Kumaraswamy
- On May 21-22, 2025, the Enforcement Directorate carried out raids at a medical college and other educational centers in Tumakuru associated with Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, as part of an investigation into a money laundering probe connected to Kannada actress Ranya Rao’s involvement in a gold smuggling scandal.
- The raids follow allegations that Parameshwara's trust diverted funds, including Rs 40 lakh paid to Ranya Rao's credit card, which Deputy CM DK Shivakumar described as a wedding gift amid political factional disputes.
- Parameshwara refused to comment on the link to the case but said his trust will cooperate fully and that he will abide by the law while Shivakumar defended him as an honest leader.
- Ranya Rao was taken into custody on March 3, 2025, at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport following her arrival from Dubai, and on May 20, a Special Court handling economic crimes granted her bail in relation to the case involving gold smuggling.
- The investigation and raids have intensified political controversy, with the Congress alleging BJP motives and the ED continuing scrutiny of Parameshwara's institutions amid ongoing probes.
