Rangers Goalie Igor Shesterkin Out for the Season with Knee Injury After Fall Against Capitals
Dylan Garand replaced the injured goalie as the Rangers lost their fifth game of the season and learned Shesterkin will miss the rest of the year.
On Saturday, the New York Rangers confirmed that goaltender Igor Shesterkin will miss the rest of the season following a right knee injury suffered during Friday night's game against Washington.
Shesterkin suffered the injury during the second period Friday when his skate appeared to catch on the goalpost while scrambling back to the net, requiring assistance from teammates to leave the ice.
With backup Joonas Korpisalo also sidelined by a lower-body injury, 24-year-old Dylan Garand will step in as the near-term starter, having recorded a.971 save percentage in two games this season.
The Rangers sent Cole Beaudoin to the Hartford Wolf Pack and recalled Juuso Pärssinen Saturday; captain J.T. Miller said, "We're not going to let that take the wind out of our sails."
NHL reporter Kevin Weekes floated potential trade targets to address the goaltending gap, while Joe Veleno will miss at least three months with a lower-body injury and is heading to long-term injured reserve.
