Luke Raley's Career Night Powers Mariners Past White Sox
Raley became the first Seattle player with a grand slam and a three-run homer in the same game since 2016.
On Friday, Mariners right fielder Luke Raley drove in a career-high seven runs with his first career grand slam and a three-run homer to power Seattle to a 12-8 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field.
Raley recently struggled, going hitless in 21 plate appearances before consulting with hitting coach Edgar Martinez about adjusting his posture and incorporating a toe tap to improve his timing.
Supporting the offensive surge, Mariners starter Emerson Hancock allowed five runs but retired 11 of the 13 batters he faced after a shaky third inning, while teammates Julio Rodriguez and Josh Naylor added home runs.
Manager Dan Wilson praised Hancock for "getting us six strong," while Raley emphasized consistency, saying, "I go home, flush it and come back the same guy tomorrow."
Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo will start Saturday against White Sox left-hander Anthony Kay in the series continuation at Rate Field.
