Rajasthan Local Body Polls: 18,266 candidates in fray as second-phase voting begins
- Voting for the second phase of Rajasthan's urban local body elections is underway on Friday across 147 urban local bodies, with more than 87 lakh voters eligible to cast ballots at 9,758 polling booths.
- The two-phase process covers 309 urban local bodies total, comprising 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils, and 248 municipalities; the first phase held 162 bodies on September 9 with 76.41 percent voter turnout.
- Jaipur Municipal Corporation has 150 wards, the largest civic body in this phase. Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations each have 100 wards, while Ajmer and Udaipur each have 80 wards and Pali has 65 wards.
- A minor dispute broke out in Jaipur at a polling station in ward 114 after supporters of an Independent candidate objected to a Congress candidate's presence; police responded to the incident.
- Counting of votes for councillor posts begins September 14 at 8 am, while mayors and chairpersons will be elected September 21, followed by deputy mayors and municipal vice-presidents on September 22.
