- On Friday, Tamil Nadu Minister P Viswanathan declared Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, will be the Congress Prime Ministerial candidate for 2029, asserting there is "no room for other questions."
- This declaration follows an escalating face-off with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam , led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, whose party has consistently pitched Vijay as the opposition's prime ministerial face.
- Congress leader Rajesh Kumar previously threatened to pull out of the alliance if TVK fails to endorse Gandhi; Viswanathan insisted, "There is no problem between the Thavek-Congress. It happens in all parties."
- Rebutting the Congress stance, Tamil Nadu Minister KA Sengottaiyan reiterated the TVK position, stating, "As far as we are concerned, our leader is very clear. Tamil Nadu has voted with faith in him."
- With two and a half years remaining before parliamentary elections, Viswanathan noted the party has started work, adding, "Congress party comrades from Kanyakumari to Tiruttani are doing politics with strength.
