Wisconsin man who ordered ballots without consent found guilty of fraud and identity theft
Harry Wait was convicted on two election fraud counts and one identity theft count after requesting absentee ballots for others to reveal system vulnerabilities, jurors said.
- On Tuesday, a Racine County jury convicted Union Grove resident Harry Wait of one felony count of identity theft and two misdemeanor counts of election fraud following a two-day trial.
- Wait admitted he requested absentee ballots in 2022 for State Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Racine Mayor Cory Mason without their consent, claiming he sought to expose vulnerabilities in Wisconsin's online ballot system.
- Testifying in his own defense, Wait insisted, "I tested the system and the system failed," while prosecutor Adrienne Blais countered, "you don't get to break the law to show that the law can be broken."
- Convicted on three of four charges, Wait faces up to six years in prison for the felony conviction and one year for each misdemeanor, though a sentencing date has not yet been set.
- This conviction follows similar legal cases involving Milwaukee deputy elections director Kimberly Zapata, as President Donald Trump and his allies continue focusing on voter fraud allegations and demanding stricter voter registration requirements.
