Uri Lupolianski, former Jerusalem mayor and founder of Yad Sarah, dies at 74
Uri Lupolianski, founder of the Yad Sarah nonprofit and Jerusalem mayor from 2003 to 2008, died after a prolonged illness and a recent deterioration in his health; he is survived by his wife and 12 children; his funeral is scheduled for today at 11:00 a.m.; Knesset member Uri Maklev said, “The world of grace has today lost its greatest architect.”

Lupolianski died after acute pneumonia that caused breathing difficulties. He was the first Haredi mayor of the capital and was convicted of accepting bribes in the "Holyland" affair that shook the country. He founded and directed the "Yad Sarah" organization, which won the Israel Prize in 1994.
