UPDATE: Phased Re-Entry to Begin for Evacuees of Quilpituk Creek Wildfire Near West Kelowna
BC Wildfire Service said the 1,275.7-hectare blaze is being held as crews mop up and assess hazards before evacuees can return.
- On Thursday, BC Wildfire Service changed the status of the 1,275.7-hectare Quilpituk Creek wildfire to being held, meaning containment is expected within the current perimeter based on fuel, weather, and resources.
- The Bradley Creek wildfire complex encompasses the Quilpituk Creek blaze and deploys an Incident Management Team, six helicopters, 21 pieces of heavy equipment, and 20 structure protection members to manage containment.
- On Friday, BCWS crews continue mop-up operations along Westside Road moving south, working within 100 feet of the perimeter to eliminate unburnt fuel pockets between the fire edge and containment line.
- Central Okanagan Emergency Operations deployed a rapid damage assessment team evaluating dangerous trees and hydro lines for re-entry safety. The EOC will advise residents on timing and critical considerations once assessments conclude.
- The Quilpituk Creek wildfire is one of 112 active wildfires and one of 37 held regionally. Warm and dry conditions with temperatures reaching 28 to 30 C and humidity dropping to 20 per cent may increase fire behavior risk.
