Williams said she is keeping expectations realistic as she prepares for her first Wimbledon singles match in nearly four years.
On Tuesday, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams returns to Wimbledon for her first singles match in four years, facing 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint on centre court.
Williams, 44, decided to return to competition for her two daughters, Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2, after previously announcing plans to "evolve away" from professional tennis in 2022.
Although Joint reached a career-high ranking of No. 28 in February, she has struggled during an injury-interrupted season, losing 13 of her past 14 matches.
Williams admitted she will feel the same "jitters" throughout her career, emphasizing that chasing a 24th major title is not her goal, preferring to "take it easy."
Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka hailed the return as inspirational, with Djokovic noting she is back in the gym to "work out the best way possible.
