Quebec politicians condemn white supremacy gathering in Shawinigan
Quebec leaders condemned the unsanctioned rally, saying masked participants used racist messages that public security has identified as hate-group rhetoric.
On Saturday, May 30, 2026, roughly 20 masked individuals held an unsanctioned rally at Veterans Park in Shawinigan, Quebec, displaying a banner reading "Je me souviens d'un Québec blanc."
Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon linked the gathering to so-called "active clubs" like Second Sons Canada, which use sports to recruit young men and normalize extremism.
Quebec Premier Christine Frechette stated that racist messages have "no place in our society," while Quebec Liberal Party Leader Charles Milliard called the gathering "horrific" and divisive.
Minister Marc Miller denounced the event as shameful, while Shawinigan Mayor Yves confirmed organizers submitted no permit requests and had no community connection.
Public Security has clearly identified such cells as hate groups, prompting political figures to call for a unanimous rejection of the racism displayed in the Mauricie region.
