QUEBEC, CANADA, JUL 24 – Edouard Lallemand was detained for two hours after the U.S. Coast Guard capsized his boat near disputed waters during a fishing trip, officials say he ignored boarding commands.
- Edouard Lallemand, a 60-year-old Quebec man, was detained by the U.S. Coast Guard on Lake Champlain after a boating incident near the U.S. border.
- The Coast Guard accused Lallemand of fishing unlawfully inside U.S. territory and stated that he disregarded their orders, which led to his boat overturning after colliding with their small vessel.
- Lallemand says the Coast Guard tried to push him into U.S. waters, causing him to fall overboard, then handcuffed and detained him in a wet jail cell for hours.
