For this multibillion-dollar deal to go ahead, it needs to be approved in a referendum vote. Some people in Pessamit say they aren’t being given enough time to understand what they’re voting on.
An agreement in billions of dollars is within reach between the Innu community of Pessamit, the Fréchette government and Hydro-Québec to settle historical disputes in addition to paving the way for new projects, including a new hydroelectric power plant on the Côte-Nord, has learned La Presse.
Amounts of several billions of dollars over 50 years are included in the agreement to resolve conflicts related to Hydro-Québec facilities.
