Qualcomm’s New Chips Power AI and 8K Video for Top Android Phones — and They’re Coming Soon
The new 2nm chips add agentic AI, 8K video capture and up to 40% gaming power savings, Qualcomm said.
- At the Snapdragon Summit in Maui on Tuesday, Qualcomm unveiled its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Elite Extreme Gen 6 chips, engineered to handle complex agentic AI workloads on a 2nm process.
- To provide phone-makers more options, Qualcomm designed the Elite Extreme for high-end video and predictive AI, while the Elite focuses on AI assistance; both feature reengineered Hexagon NPUs supporting context windows up to 32K.
- Both chips clock in at 5.0GHz, featuring an upgraded Qualcomm Sensing Hub with dual micro-NPUs delivering 85% better performance and 20% more efficiency; the Elite Extreme adds 50% larger shared memory and supports 8K video capture at 60fps.
- Xiaomi and Motorola debuted devices powered by the chips on Tuesday, demonstrating immediate market adoption. The Motorola Signature 27, arriving later in 2026, will feature the Elite Extreme and Google Gemini AI.
- The chips integrate the new Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF with FastConnect 8800, setting the stage for future 6G networks, while delivering a 12% power improvement over the last generation chip.
