French Suspect in Racist Killing of Tunisian Neighbour to Appear Before Anti-Terrorism Judge
- A French national, Christophe B., shot and killed his Tunisian neighbour Hichem Miraoui on May 31, 2025, in Puget-sur-Argens, southern France.
- The killing followed increased anti-Muslim and racist tensions in France, intensified after the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and subsequent acts of vandalism.
- Christophe B. Shared videos containing racist remarks online both prior to and following the shooting, in which he urged French citizens to target foreigners and pledged loyalty to the French flag.
- Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemned the murder as a "clearly racist crime" and "perhaps also a terrorist crime," with authorities noting a 72% increase in anti-Muslim acts in early 2025.
- Anti-Terrorism prosecutors took over the case, marking the first far-right racist attack treated as terrorism since 2019, prompting national calls to hold hatred promoters accountable.

French suspect in racist killing of Tunisian neighbour to appear before anti-terrorism judge
A Frenchman accused of shooting his Tunisian neighbour to death in a small village in southern France is on Thursday set to appear before an anti-terrorism judge. Both before and after the killing, the man, who is in his 50s, posted racist videos on social media. He is also accused of shooting and wounding a Turkish neighbour.
The murder of Hichem Miraoui, in the Var, puts on the front of the stage the danger posed by the extreme right-wing violent or even terrorist. The intelligence services are worried about the rise of this threat. Since 2017, almost twenty plans of attacks have been foiled in France.
PARIS. Another suspected racist murder is shaking France – the second in less than two months. A 45-year-old Tunisian citizen was shot dead in his home on Saturday by his neighbor, a 53-year-old French man who had made hateful comments about Arabs and urged people to vote for Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party.
