Kremlin says Putin in phone call with Trump downplays immediate Ukraine talks resumption
Putin said Ukraine’s drone attacks disrupted an immediate resumption of trilateral talks as Russia and the United States also discussed fuel supplies.
- On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told U.S. President Donald Trump that Kyiv undermined the possibility of immediate trilateral peace talks by launching drone attacks on Moscow during last month's election, the Kremlin said.
- Kremlin foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov alleged that by attacking polling stations and election organizers on voting day, "the Kyiv regime effectively disrupted the possibility of an immediate resumption of the negotiation process."
- Addressing the status of trilateral discussions, Ushakov added, "And now, as the president said, we will consider when those negotiations can be resumed," referring to talks involving the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
- During the same call, Trump and Putin discussed economic initiatives, including potential Russian diesel supplies intended to lower fuel prices before U.S. midterm elections next month.
- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that Russia's war in Ukraine remains at a "dangerous stalemate," as the United States continues working toward a settlement to end the conflict.
