Putin and Sharaa Meet to Discuss Russian Bases in Syria
- Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa is scheduled to travel to Moscow, Russia on Wednesday to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks on regional and international cooperation with a delegation including Syria's foreign, military and economic officials.
- Following last December's overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, Syria's new Islamist rulers have sought peaceful ties with Russia, which resumed engagement through Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov in January and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in July.
