Colorado Man Allegedly Steals Truck, Gets Into Head-on Crash, Sending 5 People to the Hospital
- Michael Guadalupe Freyta, a 26-year-old Aurora man, allegedly stole a 2000 Dodge Ram and was involved in a head-on crash Saturday night near Glendale and Denver.
- Aurora police confirmed the truck was stolen around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday as it traveled westbound on East Mississippi Avenue close to South Chambers Road, prompting a pursuit during which Freyta first collided with another vehicle.
- During the chase, the damaged truck's hood obstructed Freyta’s view, causing him to swerve into oncoming traffic and collide head-on with a Nissan Leaf carrying four passengers.
- Five people, including Freyta, were hospitalized with one person sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while Freyta allegedly was under the influence and faces felony charges including eluding and vehicular assault.
- Freyta was arrested after hospital release and is held in jail as investigations by Aurora police and Colorado State Patrol continue into the pursuit, crash, and his prior offenses.
