NW Firefighter Uses Narcan to Save Puppy Exposed to Fentanyl
THURSTON COUNTY, WASHINGTON, JUL 16 – Paramedics administered a small dose of Narcan to revive a puppy exposed to fentanyl, highlighting risks of opioid exposure to pets, officials said Tuesday.
- In the mini-mart parking lot on the 12800 block of Yelm Highway Southeast, firefighters revived a puppy with Narcan, Nisqually Police Department said.
- While fentanyl overdoses often affect humans, this incident extended to a puppy, and Lacey Fire Department noted a rare use of Narcan on a four-legged friend.
- Using what he called a small dose of Narcan, Bryce Craig administered Narcan, saying the puppy appeared `back to normal` about two minutes later.
- After treatment, Bryce Craig left the puppy with county animal services and Nisqually police, while the fire department said `we're happy to report it's doing well`.
- With 91 daily overdose deaths in the U.S., law enforcement agencies and paramedics are increasingly carrying Narcan as part of their standing protocol.
