Gardena Policeman Adopts the Dog He Rescued From a Trash Bin
The puppy was rescued from a dangerous self-compacting trash can and adopted after a three-day stray hold, bringing a new family member to Officer Beerling.
- Earlier this month, Gardena police officer Nick Beerling adopted the 1-year-old terrier mix he rescued, officially adding him to Beerling's household with a Shih Tzu sibling.
- On Dec. 19, Nick Beerling heard faint whimpers and discovered a puppy inside a locked, self-compacting trash can outside a local church in Gardena.
- After rescuers cut the lock, the dog was transferred to spcaLA South Bay Adoption Center for medical care, a microchip check and the mandatory three-day stray hold.
- Plans call for the pup to join Beerling's household soon, as Beerling said his wife had been interested in getting a dog and the family is currently on vacation.
- SpcaLA initially named the puppy Flan for his light brown coat, but Beerling renamed him Norm after Normandie Avenue where he was found; security cameras at the church footage was not released and it remains unclear who abandoned the animal.
