- On Thursday, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved an annual revenue increase of approximately $74.9 million for Pennsylvania American Water Company , cutting the utility's original request by more than half.
- Under PAWC's original proposal, water rates would have increased by more than $143.4 million, or approximately 15%, while wastewater rates would have increased by more than $16.1 million, affecting approximately 810,000 customers across 38 counties in the Commonwealth.
- The Commission voted 4-1 to approve the $74.9 million total, which includes $45,299,821 for water operations—approximately 4.75%—and $29,623,619 for wastewater operations under a motion by Chairman Steve DeFrank.
- New rates take effect on Aug. 13, 2026, alongside mandated customer service improvements, including expanding the monthly Arrearage Management Program credit from $25 to $40 for timely payments.
- No later than Nov. 11, 2026, PAWC must implement and file reports with the PUC's Bureau of Consumer Services detailing modifications to its Bill Discount Program and low-income customer screening procedures.
