Publix Fruit Recalled After 12 Customers Got E. Coli-Linked Stomach Illnesses
The recall covers 10-ounce bags from one lot after reports of 12 confirmed E. coli O145:H28 illnesses, Publix said.
- Publix recalled GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries in Florida and seven other states on Friday after identifying potential E. coli contamination in lot Code 60401, with a Best Date of Feb 9, 2028.
- Twelve confirmed cases of illness reported between May 11, 2026, and Jun 5, 2026, linked with E. coli O145:H28 infections, prompted Chilean producer Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. to initiate the recall.
- Shiga-Toxin forms of E. coli can cause severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea; infections may lead to HUS, a kidney failure potentially deadly for young children and immunocompromised customers.
- Publix is advising customers to "return or discard any frozen GreenWise blueberries products with a purchase date of 7/3/2026 or before," noting no other Code or Best Date is affected.
- The recalled product was distributed to Publix stores across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia; consumers with questions can call 336-899-5612 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern.
