Publicis Acquires 160over90, Makes Sports Its ‘Next Big Bet’
The deal expands Publicis Sports with a 670-person agency and a new WME partnership for talent, content financing and marketing opportunities.
- On Thursday, French advertising giant Publicis Groupe announced it acquired sports marketing agency 160over90 from WME Group for more than $500 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.
- Publicis CEO Arthur Sadoun described sports as the firm's "next big bet" after building positions in identity resolution and commerce, while WME Group continues streamlining, having laid off 30 employees last month.
- Billed as one of the world's largest sports marketing agencies, 160over90 operates across the U.S., U.K., Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific with more than 670 employees and has managed activations for the NFL's Super Bowls, Olympic Games, and FIFA World Cup.
- The agency will report to Publicis Sports CEO Suzy Deering, while Robbie Henchman, 160over90's former president, remains at WME as senior partner overseeing the strategic partnership enabling collaboration on talent and content opportunities.
- With 73% of its operating model now AI-powered, Publicis plans to connect 160over90 with its Sports Intelligence platform powered by Epsilon, enabling marketers to measure investments across media, experiential, content, sponsorships, and commerce.
