Armed Man Killed After Firing on Security Forces in Rawalpindi, Police Say
Police said the suspect opened fire on a patrolling team, and officers recovered weapons, ammunition, party flags and documents from the scene.
On Tuesday at around 11:15am, armed man Muhammad Hussain opened fire on security forces on Mall Road in Rawalpindi, injuring one officer before Rawalpindi Police killed him in retaliatory fire.
Police stated the alleged attacker belonged to a "specific political party," and according to Pakistan Television News citing security sources, he was a resident of Khyber district and an active member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf .
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused PTI of "violent politics," claiming recovered documents showed the party aimed to "spread anarchy in the country and ruin the law and order."
PTI Islamabad Region President Aamir Mughal rejected the allegations, stating the party believed in "peaceful and unarmed political struggle" and demanded an independent investigation into the incident.
Mughal argued voters rejected the anti-state narrative in the February 8, 2024, general elections, asserting PTI operates within the Constitution and law despite what he described as political pressure.
