Federal union says women overrepresented in public service job cuts
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is calling on the federal government to halt workforce adjustments in the public service, saying the job cuts are disproportionately harming women.
Of the 14,000 members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada who received a Workforce Adjustment Notice in 2025, 77% reported their gender, and 71% were women, while only 57% of federal employees. The PSAC expected 59% of its members affected by the workforce adjustment of the Canadian government to be women.
