The Senate Education Committee continued the discussion of the project of Sala Cuna Universal, an initiative that seeks to expand access to the benefit and eliminate the restrictions that today link its granting to the number of workers hired by a company. According to the Executive's motion, the proposed financing formula considers the creation of a Cuna Room Fund, which, in the case of dependent workers, is financed by a 0.35% employer contribution.In the case of independent workers, it will be paid in the same way as the other social insurances.The contribution of 0.35% will be compensated in the same magnitude with a reduction in the employer's contribution rate to the unemployment insurance.
The government presented indications to revive the project that has been under way for more than four years. The formula eliminates the obligation of companies to provide cot room directly, but finances the new system with a compensated contribution at the expense of unemployment insurance.
