UNION COUNTY — (Release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office) A collared female wolf was shot and killed in defense of livestock by the landowner earlier this month. The wolf was within 40 yards of the landowner’s residence. The province of Utrecht has been granted permission by a court to shoot the wolf that repeatedly approached people in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Faunabescherming (Fauna Protection) and Animal Rights had asked the court to suspend the permit, but the court found no grounds for doing so. This means the province can have the wolf killed.
