Amsterdam Alderman Lian Heinhuis (PvdA) reacts furiously to the decision by the Provincial Council to once again scrap three wind turbines at the Noorder IJ-plas. She calls the rejection "incomprehensible" and accuses parties of prioritizing "political games" over measures that, in her view, would make a real difference for Amsterdammers, the climate, and the overloaded power grid.
The Province of North Holland has refused permission for the installation of three wind turbines at the Noorder IJ-plas near Amsterdam-North, next to Coenplein. A substantial majority in the Provincial Council – 33 against and 19 in favor – voted against issuing a so-called declaration of no objection (vvgb). This is necessary to grant an environmental permit.
The city council of Amsterdam has to deal with a major setback. The province of North Holland has refused permission for the installation of large wind turbines next to Coenplein. As a result, the arrival of the three behemoths, for which the city council has long fought, has become extremely uncertain.
