UK protesters march in London to oppose the rise of political right
Organisers said about 500,000 people joined the largest ever UK demonstration against far-right politics, opposing racism and hate promoted by Reform UK and Nigel Farage.
- On Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters marched through central London for a "March to Stop the Far Right," organized by the Together Alliance to oppose the rise of political right.
- Participants decried Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage's right-wing Reform UK party, which is leading national polls, amid concerns about the "current political climate" and immigration proposals.
- London's Metropolitan Police provided a "rough estimate of around 50,000 people" in attendance, though organizers claimed it was the "biggest demonstration ever against the far-right."
- Singer Billy Bragg criticized the "politics of division," while Together Alliance co-convenor Sabby Dhalu claimed the mobilization "intimidated the far-right," as demonstrators carried placards reading "no to racism."
- The march occurred less than six weeks before voters head to the polls, following a rally last September led by activist Tommy Robinson that drew up to 150,000 people.
