The 'notorious' camp had been there for some time and was the scene of a large fire last November. Approximately 50 to 75 people were said to be living there.

Tensions flared as city officials moved in to clear out a big homeless encampment in Van Nuys on Thursday morning. The sweep began around 6 a.m. on Oxnard Street near Sepulveda Boulevard, according to Fox 11.

Video from the scene showed several protesters being physically pushed away from the entrance to the encampment as city crews arrived and began the operation.
