Prosecutors say Charlie Kirk was attacked for his politics, cite anti-LGBT views
Prosecutors said text messages, a letter and engraved ammunition show Tyler Robinson targeted Charlie Kirk over his political views.
- On Tuesday, prosecutors argued Tyler Robinson targeted right-wing activist Charlie Kirk for his political views, citing Kirk's opposition to gay marriage and transgender rights in their most extensive explanation to date of the September 10, 2025 shooting at a Utah university.
- Utah County attorneys presented evidence that Kirk's Turning Point USA promoted conservative values opposing gender exploration, while Robinson was in a relationship with roommate Lance Twiggs, who was exploring gender transition, prosecutors said.
- Prosecutors cited engraved ammunition reading "Hey fascist, catch" and a text message in which Robinson allegedly told Twiggs "he had enough of hatred. ome hate can't be negotiated out," arguing the circumstantial evidence is "overwhelming."
- Defense attorney Richard Novak argued on July 9 that Engelhardt's letter provided no evidence of Robinson's state of mind, while Robinson remains in custody and has yet to enter a plea.
- The defense has until August 18 to file written arguments challenging the evidence, with Utah District Court Judge Tony Graf scheduled to hold a September 1 hearing on the matter.
