Prosecutors lay charge against RCMP officer for crash with motorcycle near Sicamous
BC Prosecution Service approved one charge after the Independent Investigations Office referred the crash, and the motorcycle rider was injured, officials said.
- On Wednesday, the BC Prosecution Service charged Revelstoke RCMP Cst. Rachel Mandel with driving without due care and attention following a collision involving a motorcycle in Sicamous on June 15, 2025.
- The Independent Investigations Office investigated the collision between an RCMP cruiser and a motorcycle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Leaf Road in Solsqua, then referred the matter to the BCPS for charge assessment.
- Charges were sworn Wednesday in Salmon Arm provincial court, with Mandel's first appearance scheduled for July 21; Crown Counsel approved the charges with no connection to the accused.
- Last October, RoadSafetyBC presented Mandel with an Alexa Award for proficiency in mitigating drinking and driving, recognizing at least 24 immediate roadside prohibitions or impaired driving investigations she performed.
- The BC Prosecution Service is not commenting further or sharing additional information regarding the case at this time as the legal process proceeds toward the July 21 court date.
