Progressive lands both jersey patch spots for Cleveland’s new WNBA team
Progressive becomes the first WNBA sponsor to buy both jersey patch placements as Cleveland’s expansion team builds toward its 2028 debut.
On Tuesday, the Cleveland WNBA franchise announced Progressive Insurance as its jersey patch sponsor, becoming the first WNBA team to secure both available jersey patch placements.
The Mayfield Heights, Ohio-based company has held naming rights for Cleveland's baseball stadium since 2008, while league rules allow teams to sell both upper-left and front-number jersey spots.
Allison Howard, president of business operations, noted the team has secured 9,000 season-ticket deposits and is conducting a listening tour ahead of the May 2028 debut.
Mari Pumarejo, Progressive's chief marketing officer, called the partnership "special," citing shared commitment to women's sports as the first of many announcements planned over the next 12 months.
Dan Gilbert's Rock Entertainment Group plans to announce the team name in coming months, building on the foundation of the original Cleveland Rockers who played from 1997 until 2003.
