India’s June Industrial Output Grows Fastest in Nearly Two Years on Manufacturing Boost
Manufacturing rose 7.8% and electricity output 10.6%, helping industrial growth beat Reuters forecasts and reach its fastest pace since July 2024.
On Tuesday, official data showed India's industrial output grew 7.3% in June, the fastest pace since July 2024, driven by strong manufacturing activity and expanded electricity generation.
Manufacturing grew 7.8% to reach a 23-month high, while the heatwave drove electricity generation to a 25-month high of 10.6%; capital goods output also rose 14.2%.
Consumer demand appears to be recovering as durables grew 7.7% and non-durables rose 4.9% in June, while mining activity climbed 1% compared to a revised 1.4% fall in May.
Shashwat Singh, Fundamental Analyst at Bajaj Broking, said the uptick reflects broad-based strength, while Gaura Sen Gupta, economist at IDFC First Bank, expects momentum to hold going forward.
Despite the gains, Vikrant Chaturvedi, Associate Director at Brickwork Ratings, warned that below-normal monsoons and persistent tensions in West Asia pose significant macroeconomic risks ahead.
