SENDAI — Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles infielder Hideto Asamura became the 56th player in Japan pro baseball history to compile 2,000 hits in his career when he reached the milestone against the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters on Saturday in Sendai.

On the 24th, Rakuten infielder Asamura Hayato (34) hit a timely single to right field off pitcher Yamazaki Fukuya in the first inning of the 10th game against Nippon-Ham at Rakuten Mobile Park Miyagi, becoming the 56th player in history and the first player born in the Heisei era to achieve 2,000 career hits.
