Private sector jobs rose by 90,000 in September, better than expected, ADP reports

- ADP chief economist Nela Richardson said, "After a three-month slowdown, job creation rebounded and pay growth remained solid." August's total was revised downward to 36,000 jobs.
- Education and health services led with 55,000 new hires, while leisure and hospitality added 22,000. Financial activities and professional business services saw losses of 16,000 and 11,000 respectively.
- Base pay rose 3.2% year over year while gross pay increased 4.7%, according to ADP Pay Insights, with job-changers seeing steeper gains at 4.8% and 7.3% respectively.
- The ADP report serves as a precursor to the Bureau of Labor Statistics nonfarm payrolls data, which Wall Street expects to show 84,000 jobs added, down from 162,000 the prior month.
