Prison officer who had sexual relationship with inmate is jailed
Alicia Novas, 20, jailed for three years after nearly 3,000 contacts with inmate Declan Winkless, who received an additional three years for encouraging offences at HMP Five Wells.
- On Monday at Northampton Crown Court, Alicia Novas, former HMP Five Wells prison officer, was jailed for three years after offences at HMP Five Wells, Wellingborough.
- During the misconduct period from August to December 2024, Novas gave Winkless her personal phone number, and by November 23, the relationship became sexual.
- Recordings and online sharing reveal nearly 3,000 communications between the pair, Winkless used four illicit devices, and two videos were shared on Snapchat, with cannabis and two mobile phones smuggled into prison.
- The court ordered Winkless to serve an extra term that runs consecutively, adding three years and four months to his existing sentence of 11 years and three months, and both defendants appeared by videolink from HMP Peterborough.
- The court described Novas as naive and vulnerable, noting she failed to report concerns and Liam Muir said she was 18 with an undiagnosed emotionally unstable personality disorder.
