Prince of Wales says we need more ‘male role models’ to talk about mental health
Prince William urged men to openly discuss mental health and highlighted his foundation's $1.3 million investment in the UK's National Suicide Prevention Network.
- On February 18, 2026, Prince William, Prince of Wales made a surprise appearance on BBC Radio 1's Life Hacks, joining an hour-long panel on men's mental health with Greg James, Professor Green, Guvna B, Allan Brownrigg, and Nathan, young carer.
- Last year, the Royal Foundation launched the National Suicide Prevention Network, contributing 4.1 million to unite 20 organisations chaired by Professor Ann John.
- Quoting his message directly, William said `I take a long time trying to understand my emotions and why I feel like I do and I feel like that's a really important process to do every now and again` and emphasized `We need more male role models out there talking about it and normalising it`.
- As a result, broadcasters and palace signposted support via BBC Action Line, with Greg James saying he hopes the conversation will `enlighten and comfort people` and the prince urging people to take mental health seriously.
- Taken together, the figures have prompted calls as 4.1 million people, including 1.2 million children and young people, accessed mental-health services in England in 2024/25, with experts urging action on a `silent mental health pandemic`.
