TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS, JUL 20 – Erdogan called for international recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and an end to its isolation during the 51st anniversary of the island's division.
- During his visit to northern Cyprus today, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supported a 'two-state solution', stating `It is time for the international community to come to terms with the reality on the ground`.
- Only Turkey recognises the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and maintains over 35,000 troops, while diplomatic efforts have failed for decades.
- Amid the aftermath of the invasion, over 2,000 Cypriots are considered missing, and approximately 200,000 Greek Cypriots were uprooted from their homes.
- Turkey claims `Operation Attila` was a peaceful intervention, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan insists Ankara has a legitimate right to maintain a presence on the island.
