- On Monday , President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to Raj Kumar Goyal as Chief Information Commissioner at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
- The post had been vacant since Heeralal Samariya completed his term on September 13, and a three-member panel led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommended Raj Kumar Goyal last week.
- The Modi-led committee cleared the CIC and eight information commissioners during its meeting, recommending former bureaucrats like Jaya Verma Sinha and journalists P.R. Ramesh and Ashutosh Chaturvedi.
- Transparency activists say restoring the new CIC and information commissioners will bring the Central Information Commission to full strength after over nine years, and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, attended the swearing-in event.
