Prabowo touts Indonesia’s economic growth and investment gains in State of the Nation address
Prabowo said investment created 1.4 million jobs in the first half and argued growth must improve living standards, not just lift headline figures.
On Friday, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto proposed a US$230 billion budget for 2027 to parliament, targeting a 2.4% fiscal deficit while aiming to boost economic growth to 6% next year.
This proposal seeks to narrow the fiscal gap from the 2.85% projected for 2026, as the government attempts to rebuild finances following heavy spending on signature campaign pledges like school meals.
Budget assumptions include 2.5% inflation, a rupiah exchange rate averaging 17,500 per dollar, and a 10-year bond yield of 6.9%, with revenues projected to reach 3,426 trillion rupiah.
In a separate address on Friday, Prabowo announced revisions to citizenship laws to permit limited dual nationality, aiming to curb the "brain drain" and attract diaspora talent.
Indonesia intends to launch a commodity exchange on Jan 1, 2027, positioning itself to move beyond raw material exports and become a global price-setter for strategic commodities.
