Indonesian president names Suahasil Nazara as new finance minister, official says

The reshuffle is Prabowo Subianto’s fifth since taking office, as growth stayed near 5% and fell short of his 8% target, officials said.

  • On Sept 14, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto replaced Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa with Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta.
  • Investor concerns over fiscal policy and controversy preceded the change, as economic growth stalled at around 5 per cent, falling short of Prabowo's 8 per cent target.
  • Suahasil Nazara, a veteran bureaucrat and former head of the Finance Ministry's Fiscal Policy Agency, recited the oath of office, vowing loyalty to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.
  • Replacing the finance minister marks Prabowo's fifth Cabinet reshuffle since taking office in October 2024, following July's appointment of Sudaryono as head of the National Nutrition Agency.
  • Earlier on Monday, Purbaya left a parliamentary hearing as the transition took effect, with Suahasil assuming the portfolio after serving as deputy finance minister under Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
