Powered by Silicon Labs, Comminent Ships 500,000 Wi-SUN Modules
The milestone supports utility-grade wireless mesh networks and India’s national smart meter standard, with the modules powered by Silicon Labs’ EFR32FG28 Wireless SoC.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Comminent and Silicon Labs announced the successful shipment of 500,000 Wi-SUN-compliant communication modules powered by the EFR32FG28 Wireless SoC for India's smart energy meter rollout.
To support this infrastructure transformation, the Bureau of Indian Standards officially adopted the global Wi-SUN Field Area Network specification as the national standard for smart meter RF communication networks.
The EFR32FG28 platform combines a long-range Sub-GHz radio with a 2.4 GHz Bluetooth LE radio for design flexibility, while Silicon Labs' Secure Vault technology provides PSA Level 3-certified hardware security.
"Comminent's 500,000-unit milestone highlights the growing adoption of Wi-SUN in large-scale deployments," said Ross Sabolcik, Senior Vice President of Product Lines at Silicon Labs.
Comminent is leveraging this proven success to expand into global smart grid markets including the United States and Japan, aiming to deploy future-ready Wi-SUN networks for millions of endpoints.
