Powerboat driver Brett Duncan dies after crashing into a houseboat during race near Lowestoft

LOWESTOFT, SUFFOLK, JUL 25 – The fatal crash occurred during the ninth round of a local powerboat championship with no other injuries reported, as investigations continue into the cause of the collision.

  • At about 6.50pm, the Circuit Powerboat Association said the powerboat crashed into a stationary houseboat, and the driver died at the scene.
  • During the ninth round of the championship, the Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club had billed it as a `display of high-speed action on the water, featuring skilled drivers`, Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club said.
  • East of England Ambulance Service, coastguard and a Suffolk Accident Rescue Service paramedic responded, but no one else was injured in the collision.
  • The Marine Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the collision, Suffolk Police added.
  • A CPA spokesperson said they will issue a further update at the appropriate time, and the statement also requested that the family of the competitor be given privacy while the incident is ongoing.
