Power Cut Warning for Coventry as Storm Goretti Puts Teams on 'Standby'
Storm Goretti is expected to bring 10-15 cm of snow and possible power outages causing travel disruption across 31 UK areas, officials warned.
- Met Office issued a power-cut alert and amber warnings for 30 UK areas from 8pm Thursday to 9am Friday, covering parts of England, Wales, and Cornwall.
- Storm Goretti is forecast to bring heavy snow on Thursday evening, with accumulations of 10 to 15 cm likely and up to 30 cm possible on hills above 200 m, the Met Office said.
- Forecasters warned trains and planes could be delayed or cancelled and roads delays may leave travellers and road users stranded, while coastal areas face a danger to life on the Scilly Isles and parts of Cornwall, including Truro and Newquay, from 5pm until 11pm.
- National Grid said it is braced for any impact the storm will bring, and Roisin Quinn, field operations director at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said people should call 105 if they experience a power cut.
- Snow will ease through Friday morning, turning to rain or sleet at low levels, but the Met Office said disruption may persist and warnings could be updated due to Storm Goretti's uncertain track.
